About Us
The Beginning
Founded by international conservationist Ivan Lozano, Tesoros de Colombia and Tesoros Frogs promotes ethical bio-commerce by providing an alternative to the illegal pet trade, ensuring that rare and endangered species are preserved through sustainable practices. The initiative plays a key role in conservation by reducing the demand for wild-caught frogs, protecting natural populations, and supporting local communities. Lozano's mission is to combat the illegal wildlife trade that threatens many frog species by offering a legal and sustainable alternative through his breeding programs.
Making History
Starting in 2006, Lozano faced numerous challenges, including bureaucratic hurdles in obtaining permits for frog exports. After years of persistence, in 2011, he secured the first-ever legal export permit for a native Colombian species. Over time, Tesoros de Colombia expanded to include more species, contributing to the preservation of species like Oophaga lehmanni and Phyllobates terribilis. His work supports not only conservation but also local communities by creating employment and reducing the demand for illegally trafficked frogs.
In 2020, his work was recognized when he was awarded the National Medal of Faith in the Cause of the Colombian Air Force, presented by the President of Colombia, Iván Duque.
Goals
The project has been praised for its efforts to reduce illegal trade and for creating a positive impact on the biodiversity of Colombia. Lozano’s frogs are now exported worldwide, providing enthusiasts and collectors with a legal and ethically sourced option for acquiring these rare species).
