Origin and history in the hobby: |
We successfully introduced this Colombian species to the international frog hobby after nine years of effort to secure the necessary permits for breeding and exporting it from our Tesoros de Colombia facilities. |
Husbandry: |
Terrarium size and Social Behavior: |
We recommend housing this species in social groups of 2 to 5 frogs in terrariums of 20 gallons or larger, depending on the complexity of climbing options such as spikeless bromeliads, sturdy-leaved plants, or platforms. It is preferable to use a thick layer of Tesoros de Colombia cacao dried leaves as the substrate for optimal habitat conditions. |
Temperature: |
This species prefers a range between 65 and 81 °F |
Humidity: |
A range between 70 - 90 % is recommended |
Nutrition: |
Fruit flies (Drosophila), pinhead crickets and springtails with supplemented with minerals and vitamins |
Age and Longevity: |
We offer only frogs 3+months old. They can live for more than 15 years in captivity but 8 years is considered an average. |
Conservation in the Wild: |
This species is a national icon and is endemic to Colombia. Its limited geographical range, combined with overexploitation decades ago, has brought it to the brink of extinction, and it is now classified as endangered. In addition to past smuggling, it faces ongoing threats in the wild from habitat destruction, pollution, and the presence of the chytrid fungus. |

Habitat destruction, Chytrid fungus infection |
