HISTORIC RELEASE IV

An Exceptional Adult Pair of Oophaga sylvatica “Koi”

The Koi journey continues.

Following the extraordinary response to our first three historic releases, Tesoros Frogs is proud to present Historic Release IV—another rare opportunity to acquire an exceptional sexed adult pair of Oophaga sylvatica “Koi.”

This auction offers one confirmed male and one confirmed female, carefully selected from our conservation breeding program. Unlike our previous juvenile releases, this offering gives collectors the opportunity to acquire a mature, sexed pair of one of the most extraordinary and sought-after poison dart frog morphs ever introduced to the hobby.

The “Koi” morph is distinguished by its breathtaking combination of vivid orange or deep red, brilliant blue or white, and bold black markings arranged in unique, irregular patterns reminiscent of ornamental koi fish. No two individuals are alike, making every frog a true one-of-a-kind masterpiece of nature.

Like every Koi released by Tesoros Frogs, these animals are the result of more than ten years of investment, research, permitting, program development, and conservation work in Colombia. Their release represents another milestone in our mission to create a transparent, ethical, and fully legal conservation-based model that helps replace illegal wildlife trafficking and unsustainable exploitation.

Availability remains extremely limited.

By participating in this auction, you are not only competing for an extraordinary pair of frogs—you are becoming part of a historic program and helping support the continued development of legal captive breeding and conservation efforts in Colombia.

Historic Release IV is here. Please take a moment to admire the two photos of each frog included in this auction.

Bid for your opportunity to own another piece of Koi history.

Thank you for supporting legal origin, ethical captive breeding, conservation, and the future of poison dart frogs.

Good luck to all participants!

Auction Extension: To ensure a fair bidding process, any bid placed during the final 1 minute of the auction will automatically extend the auction by 1 additional minute. The auction will close only after one full minute passes without a new bid.

Please note: The current bid value may take a few seconds to synchronize and display correctly.

The frogs offered in Historic Release IV are currently part of our breeding program in Colombia and will be imported to the United States as part of our Fall 2026 shipment. This release is exclusively intended for the U.S. market, and the frogs offered in this auction will be available only to customers in the United States.

Details

The Koi morph is distinguished by its extraordinary combination of vivid orange or deep red with brilliant blue or white and bold black markings, creating unique patterns reminiscent of ornamental koi fish. No two individuals are alike, making every frog a one-of-a-kind masterpiece of nature. These first frogs originate from the first locality where we were able to legally establish our founder breeding stock for this remarkable morph. As our conservation breeding program continues to expand, additional localities featuring their own distinctive color variations and unique characteristics will be introduced in future releases.

Terrarium size and Social behavior: We recommend housing this species in pairs on terrariums of 30 gallons or larger, depending on the complexity of climbing options such as spikeless bromeliads, sturdy-leaved plants, or platforms. It is preferable to use a thick layer of Tesoros de Colombia leaf litter as the substrate for optimal habitat conditions. Temperature This species prefers a range between 65 and 81 °F Humidity A range between 70 - 90 % is recommended Nutrition Fruit flies (Drosophila), pinhead crickets and springtails with supplemented with minerals and vitamins. Age and longevity We offer only frogs 3+months old. They can live for more than 15 years in captivity but 8 years is considered an average.

Classified as Near Threatened in the wild due primarily to illegal overcollection for the pet trade and ongoing habitat loss, this species is now benefiting from a new conservation approach. By entering a legal biocommerce framework, a transparent and sustainable alternative is being established—one that effectively shuts down smuggling activities originating from Colombia. Threats: Overexploitation for the illegal pet trade, Habitat destruction, Chytrid fungus infection
