Historic Release II

The Second Oophaga sylvatica "Koi" Auction

The extraordinary response to our inaugural Koi Auction confirmed what we had hoped for throughout more than a decade of conservation work: the dart frog community values legal origin, ethical captive breeding, and the preservation of one of Colombia's most remarkable amphibians.

Today, we are proud to present Historic Release II.

This auction offers one exceptional adult male and one carefully selected captive-bred juvenile of undetermined sex from our conservation breeding program (1.0.1 pictured here). While the juvenile has not yet reached sexual maturity, this unique offering provides the exciting opportunity to watch one of these extraordinary frogs develop and, potentially, become part of a future breeding pair.

Like every Koi released by Tesoros Frogs, these animals originate from our legally established founder stock in Colombia after more than ten years of investment, scientific research, permitting, program development, and active conservation. Their release represents another important milestone in our mission to replace illegal wildlife trafficking with a transparent, ethical, and conservation-based model.

Availability remains extremely limited, and every Koi released contributes directly to the continued expansion of our breeding and conservation programs in Colombia.

Thank you for supporting legal origin, responsible captive breeding, and the conservation of these extraordinary frogs. Your participation helps demonstrate that conservation and the responsible hobby can thrive together.

Historic Release II is not simply another auction—it is another chapter in the history of the Koi morph and the future of conservation-based breeding.

Good luck to all participants!

Coming Soon: Historic Release III is already in preparation and will feature another unique opportunity from our conservation breeding program. Stay tuned for future announcements.

Auction Extension: To ensure a fair bidding process, any bid placed during the final 1 minute of the auction will automatically extend the auction by 1 additional minute. The auction will close only after one full minute passes without a new bid.

Please note: The current bid may take a few seconds to load or refresh.

This auction represents much more than the sale of an extraordinary pair of frogs. It marks the culmination of more than ten years of investment, scientific research, permitting, program development, and active conservation in Colombia. Bringing this species to the international hobby through a fully legal and conservation-based model required an extraordinary commitment of time, resources, and perseverance.

Seeing the incredible enthusiasm and support from the dart frog community reminds us that all those years of effort have been worthwhile. Your participation is helping demonstrate that ethical captive breeding, legal wildlife trade, and active conservation can work together to protect some of the world's most remarkable amphibians while creating a sustainable future for the hobby.

Stay tuned to TesorosFrogs.com and follow our social media channels for announcements of upcoming auctions and future historic releases.

Details

The Koi morph is distinguished by its extraordinary combination of vivid orange or deep red with brilliant blue or white and bold black markings, creating unique patterns reminiscent of ornamental koi fish. No two individuals are alike, making every frog a one-of-a-kind masterpiece of nature. These first frogs originate from the first locality where we were able to legally establish our founder breeding stock for this remarkable morph. As our conservation breeding program continues to expand, additional localities featuring their own distinctive color variations and unique characteristics will be introduced in future releases.

Terrarium size and Social behavior: We recommend housing this species in pairs on terrariums of 30 gallons or larger, depending on the complexity of climbing options such as spikeless bromeliads, sturdy-leaved plants, or platforms. It is preferable to use a thick layer of Tesoros de Colombia leaf litter as the substrate for optimal habitat conditions. Temperature This species prefers a range between 65 and 81 °F Humidity A range between 70 - 90 % is recommended Nutrition Fruit flies (Drosophila), pinhead crickets and springtails with supplemented with minerals and vitamins. Age and longevity We offer only frogs 3+months old. They can live for more than 15 years in captivity but 8 years is considered an average.

Classified as Near Threatened in the wild due primarily to illegal overcollection for the pet trade and ongoing habitat loss, this species is now benefiting from a new conservation approach. By entering a legal biocommerce framework, a transparent and sustainable alternative is being established—one that effectively shuts down smuggling activities originating from Colombia. Threats: Overexploitation for the illegal pet trade, Habitat destruction, Chytrid fungus infection
